Approach
10,000 Feet products and services focus on helping professionals view their businesses
from a higher altitude.
Specifically, 10,000 Feet believes in the importance of helping people rise out of
the immediacy of day-to-day work challenges to a broader, more strategic viewpoint.
The results are more effective ground-level decisions in light of understanding
the complex dynamic of one’s business.
10,000 Feet achieves these outcomes through uniquely innovative learning processes.
Several principals guide its designs, including:
- Use learning processes that are engaging and require active participation. These
inherently require team members to share ideas and build context around the
knowledge and expertise they own. In this way, knowledge grows exponentially.
- Ensure the learner (or learning team) is largely responsible for the learning outcome. The facilitator’s role is to set context, create a dynamic learning environment, and monitor and participate in the learning process. Learners assume the responsibility
for sharing and growing the collective knowledge of the team.
- Whenever possible, build from a positive ‘appreciative’ stance that starts with the
strengths and positive attributes of the situation and/or teams.
- Honor diverse learning styles, including visual, auditory and particularly kinesthetic
(hands-on) because engaged learners are most successful. In addition, maximize
the potential for ‘social learning’ with peers, as it generally is more successful in
creating
sustained behavioral change.
- Promote a continuous cycle of experimentation, both in the design, and through Products that involve scenario building, prototyping and simulation. Learning experiences
containing elements of focused experimentation, analysis and application provide
learning not only new knowledge, but the ability to keep learning.
